Rymättylä

Rymättylä is a former municipality in Finland, located in the archipelago of the Baltic Sea. In 2009, it was consolidated with the municipalities of Naantali, Merimasku, and Velkua to form the new municipality of Naantali. Rymättylä is situated in the Southwest Finland region.

The area of Rymättylä is characterized by its thousands of islands and islets, making it a significant part of the Finnish Archipelago Sea. Historically, Rymättylä was known for its fishing and seafaring traditions. The island of Röölä within Rymättylä was particularly renowned for its fish processing industry.

The main village of Rymättylä, also called Rymättylä, is located on the largest island, Airismaa. The municipality's church, also named Rymättylä Church, is a medieval stone church dating back to the 16th century and is a notable landmark.

Throughout its history as an independent municipality, Rymättylä's population was relatively small, and its economy relied heavily on natural resources and tourism. The consolidation into Naantali aimed to create a larger and more viable administrative unit. Today, the former Rymättylä area is a popular destination for summer cottages, boating, and enjoying the unique archipelago landscape.
