Rukmini

Rukmini is a prominent figure in Hindu mythology, primarily known as the first and chief wife of Lord Krishna. Her story is most famously recounted in the Srimad Bhagavatam and the Vishnu Purana, as well as in various regional epics and devotional literature. She is considered an avatar of the goddess Lakshmi, the divine consort of Vishnu.

Born a princess of Vidarbha, Rukmini was renowned for her exceptional beauty, intelligence, and virtue. Her father, King Bhishmaka, had promised her hand in marriage to Shishupala, the king of Chedi and a sworn enemy of Krishna. However, Rukmini was deeply in love with Krishna and wished to marry him. Despite her father's intentions, she secretly sent a message to Krishna, expressing her desire to elope.

On the day of her wedding to Shishupala, Krishna arrived and, with her consent, abducted Rukmini. This act, known as Rukmini Haranam, is a significant event in Krishna's life, symbolizing divine intervention and the triumph of true love over societal and political pressures. After their marriage, Rukmini bore Krishna ten sons, including Pradyumna, and one daughter. She is depicted as a devoted and loving wife, actively participating in Krishna's divine pastimes and offering counsel and support. Rukmini is worshipped alongside Krishna and is revered as a symbol of devotion, purity, and divine grace.
