Ruizong

Ruizong refers to two different emperors of the Tang Dynasty in China. The first was Emperor Ruizong of Tang (Li Dan), who reigned from 684 to 690 and again from 710 to 712. He was the son of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian. During his first reign, he was largely a figurehead under his mother's control. After her abdication, he regained the throne, but his rule was short-lived, and he eventually abdicated in favor of his son, Emperor Xuanzong.

The second emperor referred to as Ruizong was Emperor Ruizong of Tang (Li Longji), also known as Emperor Xuanzong. He reigned from 712 to 756. He is considered one of the most important emperors of the Tang Dynasty, presiding over a period of cultural and economic prosperity known as the Kaiyuan era. However, his reign later faced significant challenges, including the An Lushan Rebellion, which marked a turning point in the dynasty's fortunes. Due to the ambiguity, it is important to specify which Emperor Ruizong is being referred to, though often the context of the historical period or events being discussed clarifies the identity.
