Ruhroh

Ruhroh is a city-state and political entity in the northern archipelago of Valmaar on the fictional continent of Eldoria. It is a coastal, maritime society known for its vigorous trade networks and distinctive cultural traditions.

Ruhroh occupies several volcanic islands with rugged coastlines, mangrove estuaries, and terraced agriculture. The capital Ruhroh City lies on the main island's sheltered bay. The climate is maritime, with wet winters and warm, dry summers; seismic activity is a recurring feature.

It is governed as a constitutional republic with a bicameral legislature, the Council of Isles and the People’s Assembly. The Chief Magistrate serves as head of government, while a rotating senior magistrate represents the state in ceremonial matters. Local councils administer each island under a framework of laws and maritime regulations.

Ruhroh emerged from seafaring clans who settled the archipelago in the early medieval era. It united into a loose federation around the 15th century and achieved de facto independence in the 17th. The modern republic was established after a peaceful constitutional reform in the late 19th century.

Its economy centers on fisheries, shipbuilding, timber, and light manufacturing, with a strong emphasis on sustainable practices and fishing rights. The archipelago hosts a network of ports, markets, and shipyards. The population is diverse, including islander communities, traders, and immigrant families; Ruhroan is the official language, with daily use of neighboring dialects.

Ruhroh culture features wood carving, textiles, and ritual sea ceremonies. The annual Tide Festival celebrates seafaring heritage with music, dance, and craft markets. Notable landmarks include the Dusk Gate, the Coral Market, and the Lava Steps.
