Ruhaszennnyezés

Ruhazennnyezés, or clothing pollution, refers to the environmental impact associated with the production, use, and disposal of garments. This encompasses a wide range of issues throughout the textile lifecycle. The manufacturing process often requires significant amounts of water and energy, and can involve the release of harmful chemicals and microplastics into waterways and the atmosphere. The dyeing and finishing stages are particularly resource-intensive and polluting.

During the use phase, laundry contributes to water and energy consumption, as well as the shedding of microfibers from synthetic fabrics, which can enter aquatic ecosystems. The disposal of clothing also poses a substantial challenge. A significant portion of discarded textiles ends up in landfills, where they can take a long time to decompose and release greenhouse gases. Incineration, while reducing landfill volume, can contribute to air pollution.

The fast fashion industry, characterized by rapid production of cheap, trendy clothing, exacerbates these problems by encouraging overconsumption and a shorter lifespan for garments. Growing awareness of ruhazennnyezés has led to increased interest in sustainable fashion practices, including the use of recycled materials, organic fibers, ethical production methods, and the promotion of clothing repair and reuse. Circular economy models are being explored as a way to minimize waste and maximize the lifespan of textile products.
