Rubinrot

Rubinrot (Ruby Red) is a 2009 German young adult fantasy novel by Kerstin Gier. It is the first installment in the Edelstein-Trilogie (Ruby Red Trilogy). The story follows Gwyneth Shepherd, a sixteen-year-old who discovers she comes from a family of time travelers who can move through time by means of a genetic chronograph. The narrative centers on her training as she travels with Gideon de Villiers, a fellow traveler from an old-time secret circle, to the past to retrieve artifacts and uncover family secrets. The plot addresses themes of identity, trust, and romance within a backdrop of historical settings and a conspiracy that threatens the travelers.

Publication and reception: Rubinrot was published by Arena Verlag in 2009. It has been translated into several languages and achieved commercial success, prompting two sequels and a film adaptation. Adaptations: The book was adapted into a feature film Rubinrot (2013), directed by Felix Binder, starring Maria Ehrich as Gwyneth and Jannis Niewöhner as Gideon. The film was followed by two sequels, Saphirblau (2014) and Smaragdgrün (2016), completing the on-screen adaptation of the trilogy.
