Rubberseated

Rubberseated refers to a type of valve design where a soft material, typically rubber or a similar elastomer, is used to create a seal against a metal seat. This contrasts with traditional metal-to-metal valve seats. The flexibility of the rubber allows it to deform and conform to imperfections on the mating surface of the valve disc or plug, resulting in a more complete and leak-tight seal. This enhanced sealing capability is particularly beneficial in applications where even minor leakage is unacceptable, such as in certain chemical processes or water supply systems.

The use of rubber seating can improve valve performance by reducing fugitive emissions and operational noise. The resilient nature of the rubber also helps to absorb shock and vibration, potentially extending the lifespan of the valve and associated piping. However, the operating temperature and chemical compatibility of the rubber material must be carefully considered, as extreme conditions can degrade the rubber and compromise its sealing ability. Different types of elastomers, such as EPDM, Buna-N, or Viton, are chosen based on the specific service requirements of the valve. The manufacturing process involves carefully molding or inserting the rubber into the valve body or onto the closure element.
