Rowling

Rowling is an English surname. It is most commonly associated with Joanne Rowling (born 1965), who writes under the pen name J. K. Rowling. The name itself is of English origin.

Joanne Rowling was born in Yate, Gloucestershire, England. She studied at the University of Exeter and worked in several jobs before writing fiction full-time. In 1997, she published the first book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (released in the United States as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone). The seven-volume series follows Harry Potter and his friends at Hogwarts as they confront the dark wizard Voldemort, and it has been translated into many languages and adapted into a major film series.

Rowling has published other works, including The Casual Vacancy (2012) and the crime novels written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, including The Cuckoo's Calling (2013), The Silkworm (2014), and Career of Evil (2015).

She established the charity Lumos in 2005 to help vulnerable children. Her advocacy and literary work have made her a widely recognized public figure and the best-known bearer of the Rowling surname.
