RoughVakuum

RoughVakuum is a term used to describe a vacuum state that is not perfectly free of particles. In contrast to a perfect vacuum, which is theoretically empty space, a rough vacuum still contains a significant number of gas molecules. This level of vacuum is typically achieved by mechanical pumps such as rotary vane pumps or diaphragm pumps.

The pressure range for a rough vacuum is generally considered to be between 1 atmosphere (atm) and 10⁻³ Torr (or approximately 1.3 x 10⁻³ millibars). This range is broad and can vary slightly depending on the specific application or industry. While not as high a vacuum as ultra-high vacuum, rough vacuum is sufficient for many industrial and laboratory processes.

Applications of rough vacuum include vacuum drying, degassing, filtration, and filling processes. It is also used as a preliminary stage in achieving higher vacuum levels. For instance, a roughing pump is often used to evacuate a chamber before a higher vacuum pump, such as a turbomolecular pump, can become effective. The presence of residual gas in a rough vacuum can influence the speed of processes and may require consideration in experimental design or industrial production.
