Rootelectron
Rootelectron is a term that refers to the lowest energy electronic state of a molecule or atom. In quantum mechanics, electrons within an atom or molecule occupy discrete energy levels. The ground state is the state with the minimum possible energy. When an electron absorbs energy, it can jump to a higher energy level, known as an excited state. When the electron returns to the ground state, it releases the absorbed energy, often as a photon of light.
The electronic configuration of an atom or molecule in its ground state is typically described by filling
