Rivierarmen
Rivierarmen is a Dutch term referring to branches of a river that diverge from the main channel and flow through separate courses. These arms can carry part of the river's discharge toward different outlets, and they are common in river deltas and large floodplains. In hydrology and geomorphology, rivierarmen are often described as distributaries or anabranches, depending on whether the arms eventually rejoin the main stem or run parallel to it before reaching another water body.
Formation and evolution: Rivierarmen form through sediment deposition, erosion, and occasional avulsion, where the river changes
Hydrological and ecological role: River arms influence sediment distribution, nutrient transport, and flood dynamics. They often
