Rimetea

Rimetea is a commune located in Alba County, Transylvania, Romania. It is situated in the western part of the Apuseni Mountains, at the foot of the Piatra Secuiului massif. The village is renowned for its picturesque setting and well-preserved architectural heritage.

The history of Rimetea dates back to medieval times. It was first documented in 1251. Over the centuries, it developed into a significant mining center, particularly for iron ore. Many of these homes are aligned facing east, a tradition attributed to the local belief that it allowed inhabitants to see the sunrise twice due to the reflection off the Piatra Secuiului.
