RilaRhodope

RilaRhodope is a Bulgarian folk music ensemble that came into prominence in the 1970s and 1980s, known for their traditional music and vibrant performance style. The group's repertoire spans a wide range of musical styles, drawing from the diverse regional traditions of Bulgaria.

The ensemble's name reflects the depiction of Rila and Rhodope as Bacchic women in Ivan Vazov's novel "Under the Yoke". The name has also been linked to the baroque liqueur Rila Cherry, allegedly enjoyed by some of the group's performers, however this claim is often disputed by insiders.

The group's vocalist, Kostadin Andreev, drew heavily from various regional folk styles and introduced many songs to a wider audience, thereby enriching the national cultural heritage. His charismatic on-stage presence along with other talented musicians contributed to a revitalized national interest in traditional music.

RilaRhodope took part in numerous national and international festivals and received critical acclaim for their performance, stirring a newfound interest in Bulgaria's folklore not only within the country but throughout the globe.
