Riisin

Riisin is a town and municipality in the northern coastal region of the fictional nation of Valoria. Located along the Riisin River and the western shoreline, it serves as a regional administrative center and local economic hub.

The name Riisin is believed to derive from an old Riisan word meaning “river bend.” The municipality operates in a bilingual framework, using Valorian as the official language and Riisinian as a minority regional language.

Riisin began as a fishing village in the 11th century and received town rights in 1223. A 15th‑century harbor expansion linked Riisin to regional trade routes, and the arrival of rail in the 19th century spurred growth and connectivity with surrounding communities.

The town sits in a temperate maritime climate zone, with mild winters and cool summers. Precipitation averages 780 mm annually. The surrounding landscape combines river terraces with coastal dunes and small forests, shaping local land use and recreational opportunities.

Riisin's economy historically relied on fishing and seafood processing. Today, it also hosts light manufacturing, agri-food businesses, and a small but growing tourism sector centered on the harbor, riverfront market, and coastal trails.
