Riigitööstus
Riigitööstus refers to industrial enterprises owned and operated by the state. This form of economic organization is a characteristic feature of socialist and centrally planned economies, though elements of state ownership in industry can also be found in mixed economies. In a system of riigitööstus, the government typically controls the means of production, sets production targets, manages resource allocation, and determines employment and wages within these state-owned factories and industries. The primary goal of riigitööstus is often to serve the broader national interest, as defined by the state, which can include ensuring the production of essential goods and services, promoting strategic industries, or achieving specific social and economic development objectives. The efficiency and effectiveness of riigitööstus are subjects of ongoing debate, with proponents arguing for its ability to direct resources towards national priorities and critics pointing to potential issues like bureaucracy, lack of innovation, and inefficiency compared to private enterprise. In some countries, the role of riigitööstus has diminished with the adoption of market-oriented reforms and privatization.
