Ribovirales

Ribovirales is an order of viruses that all have RNA genomes. These viruses are characterized by the presence of an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, an enzyme that replicates their RNA genome. The order Ribovirales currently contains a single family, the *Closteroviridae*, and several unassigned genera. Viruses within this order infect a wide range of hosts, including plants, insects, and mammals.

The genome of Ribovirales can be either positive-sense single-stranded RNA or negative-sense single-stranded RNA. The replication strategy and the specific mechanisms of gene expression vary depending on the genome polarity. For example, viruses with positive-sense RNA genomes can directly translate their RNA into proteins upon entering the host cell, while those with negative-sense RNA genomes must first transcribe their RNA into positive-sense strands before translation can occur.

Ribovirales viruses are known to cause a variety of diseases. In plants, they can lead to economically significant crop losses. In mammals, some Ribovirales viruses are responsible for respiratory illnesses, hemorrhagic fevers, and neurological disorders.
