Ribonukleoproteinkomplexe, often abbreviated as RNPs, are molecular assemblies composed of both RNA molecules and proteins. These complexes are fundamental to a wide range of cellular processes, playing crucial roles in gene expression, RNA processing, and protein synthesis. The RNA component can vary in type, including messenger RNA (mRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA), ribosomal RNA (rRNA), and various non-coding RNAs such as microRNAs (miRNAs) and small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs). The protein components are equally diverse, often featuring specific RNA-binding domains that facilitate stable and functional interactions.

One of the most well-known examples of an RNP is the ribosome, the cellular machinery responsible for translating mRNA into proteins. Ribosomes are complex structures made of rRNA and numerous ribosomal proteins. Another significant class of RNPs are spliceosomes, which are involved in the removal of introns from pre-mRNA. These complexes are essential for producing mature mRNA molecules that can be translated into functional proteins. Other RNPs, like signal recognition particles (SRNs), are involved in directing proteins to specific cellular locations. The dynamic assembly and disassembly of RNPs are tightly regulated, allowing cells to adapt to changing conditions and carry out sophisticated molecular tasks.
