Reveneering is a neologism used to describe a set of strategic practices aimed at achieving adverse effects against a rival, often with a focus on revenue or punitive outcomes. The term is not widely standardized and appears in niche discussions in business ethics and political economy.

Etymology and scope: the word blends “revenge” and “engineering” or “revenue” and “engineering” to signal both punitive and financial dimensions. It is used to discuss tactics in corporate rivalry, regulatory disputes, or geopolitical contests.

Common elements include leveraging financial indicators and legal channels; strategic litigation or patent enforcement; influencing policy or regulation; and shaping public opinion through communications campaigns. The emphasis is on orchestrating multiple channels to shape outcomes rather than relying on a single instrument.

Examples are largely hypothetical or observed in commentary: a firm seeks to deter a competitor by combining aggressive IP enforcement with supplier contract leverage; a state uses targeted sanctions and procurement rules to pressure a rival regime into policy concessions.

Criticism: many observers view reveneering as ethically questionable and potentially destabilizing; it raises concerns about abuse of legal systems, harm to consumers or third parties, and escalation. It is not recognized as a formal discipline, and definitions vary.
