Restylane

Restylane is a brand of injectable dermal fillers used to restore facial volume, fill wrinkles, and shape facial contours. It originated from the Swedish company Q-Med AB and is now marketed by Galderma. The fillers are based on hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance naturally found in the skin. Restylane products use non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) in a crosslinked gel form, engineered to provide a cohesive, durable matrix that lasts longer than non-crosslinked HA after injection.

The Restylane family includes several formulations designed for different indications, such as Restylane (general filler), Restylane Lyft (cheeks and mid-face), Restylane Silk (lips and perioral lines), Restylane Refyne and Defyne (facial lines with movement), Restylane Kysse (lips and surrounding area), and Restylane Contour (cheeks). Availability and specific approved uses vary by country. In many markets, individual products are approved for treating nasolabial folds and other wrinkles, with some variants also approved for lip augmentation, cheek enhancement, or chin contour.

Administration is performed by trained healthcare professionals through injections. Results are typically visible immediately and improve over the following days as swelling subsides. The duration of effect varies by product, treated area, and individual factors, but most Restylane fillers last roughly 6 to 18 months.

Common side effects include temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising at the injection site. More serious but rare risks include vascular occlusion, infection, nodules, and vision changes if performed improperly.
