Ressourcenmultiplexing, also known as resource multiplexing, is a technique used in computing and telecommunications to allow multiple users or processes to share a single physical resource. This sharing is achieved by dividing the resource's capacity or time into smaller segments and allocating these segments to different users or processes. The primary goal of resource multiplexing is to improve the efficiency of resource utilization by avoiding idle periods and enabling a higher throughput.

There are several common forms of resource multiplexing. Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) divides access to a resource based on time slots. Each user or process is assigned specific, recurring time intervals during which they can use the resource. Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) divides the resource's bandwidth into different frequency channels, with each user or process assigned a unique frequency band. Code Division Multiplexing (CDM) uses unique spreading codes to differentiate signals, allowing multiple users to share the same frequency band simultaneously. Statistical multiplexing, often used in packet-switched networks, dynamically allocates resources based on demand, sending data in packets and sharing the available bandwidth as needed.

Resource multiplexing is fundamental to the operation of many modern technologies. In telecommunications, it enables multiple phone calls or data streams to travel over the same physical line. In computer networking, it allows many devices to connect to a single network interface. Operating systems use resource multiplexing to allow multiple applications to run concurrently on a single CPU. The careful implementation of multiplexing techniques is crucial for maximizing performance and minimizing costs in systems where resources are finite.
