Resinijärjestelmät refers to resin systems, which are materials composed of a resin and a hardener or curing agent. When these components are mixed, a chemical reaction occurs, causing the liquid resin to transform into a solid, rigid material. This process is known as curing.

Resin systems are broadly categorized into two main types: thermosetting and thermoplastic. Thermosetting resins undergo an irreversible chemical change during curing, forming a permanently cross-linked network. Once cured, they cannot be remelted or reshaped. Examples include epoxy resins, polyester resins, and phenolic resins. Thermoplastic resins, on the other hand, can be repeatedly softened by heating and solidified by cooling, as their molecular structure does not form permanent cross-links. The properties of a cured resin system depend heavily on the type of resin, the curing agent used, and the processing conditions. These systems are valued for their versatility, offering a wide range of mechanical strengths, chemical resistance, electrical insulation properties, and adhesion capabilities. They find applications in numerous industries, including construction, automotive, aerospace, electronics, and art. For instance, epoxy resins are widely used as adhesives and coatings due to their excellent strength and durability. Polyester resins are common in boat building and composite manufacturing. Thermoplastic resins are extensively used in packaging, textiles, and consumer goods. The selection of a specific resin system is guided by the intended application and the required performance characteristics.
