Residuumide

Residuumide is a term used in theoretical chemistry and speculative mineralogy to denote a class of hypothetical inorganic compounds imagined as dense, metal-rich residues formed from the remnants, or residua, left after high-temperature processing of minerals or hydrocarbons. The name combines residuum, meaning remainder, with the common chemical suffix -ide, indicating a discrete compound.

In proposed models, residuumides are cluster- or framework-type solids in which metal centers (often iron, nickel, or cobalt in speculative schemes) are coordinated by residuum-derived ligands or interstitial residual units. Predicted geometries include octahedral metal centers connected into three-dimensional networks, yielding high coordination numbers and strong covalent bonding. Proposed synthetic routes in simulations include high-temperature condensation of residuum fragments under inert conditions, or assembly from metal precursors and designed residuum ligands in a controlled atmosphere.

Potentially high thermal stability, variable electrical conductivity controlled by ligand composition, and catalytic activity in hydrocarbon processing or in solid-state ceramic manufacturing are discussed in imaginary contexts.
