Repülgépmodellezés, also known as model aircraft building or aeromodeling, is a hobby and sport that involves constructing and flying flying machines that are scaled-down replicas of real aircraft or original designs. This activity can range from simple rubber-band powered gliders to complex radio-controlled jets that closely mimic the performance of their full-size counterparts.

The practice of aeromodeling encompasses several disciplines. Static modeling focuses on building highly detailed and accurate scale replicas for display, emphasizing craftsmanship and historical accuracy. Dynamic modeling, on the other hand, is concerned with the flight characteristics and performance of the models. This can include free-flight models that are launched by hand or powered by rubber bands, control-line models where the aircraft is tethered by wires to a control handle, and radio-controlled (RC) models, which are the most prevalent today and are steered using a multi-channel transmitter.

Materials used in repülgépmodellezés vary widely. Traditional models often utilize balsa wood, plywood, and tissue paper, while modern constructions frequently incorporate foam, fiberglass, carbon fiber, and plastics. Power sources also differ, from simple elastic motors and compressed air to electric motors powered by batteries and internal combustion engines, including miniature jet turbines for advanced models.

Aeromodeling requires a blend of technical skills, including woodworking, electronics, aerodynamics, and piloting. It fosters an understanding of physics and engineering principles, and many participants are driven by a passion for aviation and a desire to recreate the experience of flight on a smaller scale. Competitions exist for various aeromodeling disciplines, testing both building skills and piloting ability.
