Reprezentálás

Reprezentálás is the act and result of presenting or standing for something else. It encompasses the way information, objects, or concepts are depicted, encoded, or embodied so that they can be understood, manipulated, or acted upon. The term is used across disciplines to denote both the process and the outcome of such depiction, and it often involves abstraction and simplification.

In mathematics and logic, representation concerns expressing an object by a different, often simpler or more usable form. Examples include representing a function by a formula, a geometric object by coordinates, or a group by matrices in a linear representation. Representation theory studies how algebraic objects can be realized as actions on vector spaces.

In computer science and information theory, representation deals with encoding information into symbols and data structures. This includes numeric encodings (binary, decimal, floating point), character encodings (ASCII, Unicode), and the modeling of real-world entities in data structures. Knowledge representation in artificial intelligence uses languages and formalisms to encode facts, rules, and relations.

In linguistics and cognitive science, representation concerns the mental structures that underlie language, perception, and thought. This includes phonological, syntactic, and semantic representations, as well as mental models used for reasoning and planning.

In social and political contexts, representation refers to the delegation of authority or the depiction of groups in public life, including electoral representation and media representation, with attention to accuracy, bias, and proportionality.
