Renalisans is a term used in speculative biology and science fiction to describe a hypothetical renal-associated microorganism. The name derives from renalis, Latin for kidney, with the suffix -ans indicating an agent or entity. It is not an established taxonomic group and has no confirmed existence in real-world biology.

In the fictional concept, Renalisans is depicted as a pleomorphic, non-spore-forming microbe ranging from about 0.5 to 2 micrometers in diameter. It is imagined to form filamentous networks within the renal interstitium and tubules, and to be capable of occupying tubular lumens or intracellular niches to evade immune surveillance.

Ecology and transmission are described in a speculative framework where Renalisans inhabits renal tissue across mammals. Proposed transmission routes include exposure to contaminated urine or environmental reservoirs. Its life cycle is said to alternate between extracellular colonization of the tubules and intracellular replication under certain stress conditions, with release into urine completing a cycle of shedding.

Pathology and clinical relevance in this fictional setting associate Renalisans with hypothetical chronic kidney changes, such as interstitial nephritis or progressive decline in renal function. However, there is no empirical evidence for its existence, and the concept serves primarily as a thought experiment to explore host–microbe interactions in the kidney and the potential for renal-adapted microbes.
