Rekvisitører, also known as prop masters, are essential members of theatrical, film, and television production crews. Their primary role is to manage all the objects that actors interact with or that are part of the set dressing. This includes everything from furniture and decorative items to small handheld props like weapons, food, or personal belongings.

The work of a rekvisitør begins early in the production process. They collaborate with the director, set designer, and costume designer to understand the specific needs of the production. This involves researching historical periods, the overall aesthetic of the piece, and the functional requirements of each prop. They are responsible for sourcing, acquiring, and maintaining all necessary items. This can involve purchasing new items, renting from prop houses, building props from scratch, or even borrowing from private collections.

During rehearsals and filming, rekvisitører ensure that every prop is in its correct place and in working order. They work closely with actors to ensure they are comfortable and familiar with the props they will be using. Consistency is key, so a rekvisitør meticulously tracks the condition and location of each prop throughout the production. They are also responsible for the budget associated with props, ensuring that purchases and rentals stay within allocated funds. After the production concludes, rekvisitører handle the storage, return, or sale of all props.
