Rektálisvaginális

Rektálisvaginális, in English rectovaginal, is an anatomical and clinical term describing relations and tissues between the rectum and vagina. It is used to refer to both normal anatomy—such as the rectovaginal space and the rectovaginal septum—and to pathological connections or lesions that involve both organs.

Anatomical context: The rectovaginal space lies between the posterior vaginal wall and the anterior wall of the rectum. The rectovaginal septum is a fibrous partition separating the two compartments and contributing to pelvic support. The area contains connective tissue, blood vessels, and nerve fibers relevant to pelvic function and surgical access.

Common rectovaginal conditions include rectovaginal fistula, an abnormal tract between the rectum and vagina that can cause passage of gas or stool through the vagina. Causes include obstetric trauma, inflammatory bowel disease, radiation therapy, cancer resection, or infection. Rectovaginal endometriosis and rectovaginal abscess are other examples; symptoms vary and may include pain, vaginal discharge, or fecal incontinence. Diagnosis combines pelvic examination, rectovaginal examination, imaging (MRI, ultrasound, CT), and dye tests.

Treatment depends on cause and severity. Rectovaginal fistulas may require surgical repair with local tissue flaps, connective tissue grafts, or diverting stomas; non-surgical options are limited and contingent on cause. Management of endometriosis or infections follows standard gynecologic or colorectal protocols. The term highlights the need to coordinate colorectal and gynecologic care.
