Reichskommissars

A Reichskommissar was a high-ranking official appointed by the Nazi German government during the Third Reich. Their primary role was to oversee and enforce Nazi policies in occupied territories or in specific administrative areas within Germany. These positions were created to centralize control and ensure the swift implementation of the regime's ideological and administrative objectives.

In occupied territories, Reichskommissars held significant power, acting as the de facto rulers. They were responsible for the economic exploitation of the region, the suppression of any resistance, and the systematic persecution of targeted groups, particularly Jews. Notable examples include Reichskommissariat Ostland (covering parts of Eastern Europe) and Reichskommissariat Ukraine. Within Germany, some Reichskommissars were appointed to oversee specific sectors or regions, ensuring adherence to Nazi directives. The office represented a significant tool of authoritarian control and imperial expansion for the Nazi regime.
