Regressivisma

Regressivisma, often referred to in academic circles as regressivism, is a philosophical and theological stance that emphasizes returning to earlier or original principles, doctrines, or practices. The concept emerged in the late twentieth century, largely as a reaction to what proponents viewed as the dilution or fragmentation of foundational beliefs in modern religious and cultural contexts. Core to regressivism is the idea that the perceived integrity and efficacy of traditions are best preserved by adhering closely to texts, rituals, and organizational structures that have historically been in place.

Key tenets of regressivisma include a literal interpretation of canonical texts, resistance to contemporary reinterpretation, and a prioritization of institutional continuity over innovation. Advocates argue that progress often leads to moral relativism and the erosion of communal identity, whereas a regressivist approach safeguards ethical clarity. Critics, however, contend that such rigid adherence can stifle necessary adaptation, create intolerance, and alienate newer generations who feel disconnected from antiquated customs. In practice, regressivist movements have surfaced within various religious traditions, most notably in certain streams of Protestant Christianity, but also within segments of Eastern religions and cultural heritage organizations.

Despite its controversial reception, regressivisma has influenced debates on canon law, liturgical reform, and cultural preservation. Scholars examine its impact on media representation, legal frameworks, and educational curricula, noting that the tension between the desire for traditional stability and the need for social progress remains a central dynamic in contemporary discourse.
