Refraktsioonihäiretega is a Finnish term referring to refractive errors of the eye. These are common vision conditions where the eye's ability to focus light correctly on the retina is impaired. This leads to blurred vision or other visual disturbances. The most common types of refractive errors include myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia.

Myopia occurs when the eyeball is too long or the cornea is too curved, causing distant objects to appear blurry. Hyperopia happens when the eyeball is too short or the cornea is not curved enough, making close-up objects blurry, and sometimes distant objects as well. Astigmatism is caused by an irregularly shaped cornea or lens, which distorts vision at all distances. Presbyopia is an age-related condition where the lens of the eye loses its flexibility, making it difficult to focus on near objects.

Refractive errors are usually diagnosed during a routine eye examination. They can often be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery. The specific type and severity of the refractive error will determine the best course of correction. Symptoms can vary but commonly include blurry vision, headaches, eye strain, and squinting. While refractive errors are not typically associated with serious eye diseases, uncorrected vision problems can impact daily life and academic or professional performance.
