Reformernas

Reformernas, in Swedish, is a term that broadly denotes the Reformers—the leaders and proponents of the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. It is not the name of a single organization but a label used in historical writing to refer to the various figures, groups, and movements that sought to reform Christian doctrine, church governance, and religious practice.

Historically, the Reformation began in the early 1500s as critics challenged the authority and practices of the Catholic Church. Core ideas associated with the reformers include justification by faith alone, the primacy of Scripture over church tradition, and the priesthood of all believers. Prominent reformers include Martin Luther, Huldrych Zwingli, and John Calvin, who gave rise to distinct streams such as Lutheran and Reformed churches, among others.

In Sweden and many Nordic regions, reforms during the 1520s–1530s contributed to the establishment of a Lutheran church and the alignment of national religious life with continental reform movements. In Swedish historiography, Reformernas is often used to refer collectively to these figures and to the broader processes of ecclesiastical reform.

In contemporary usage, Reformernas can appear as part of the name of groups or movements that emphasize reform, though it does not denote a single unified entity. The term remains a descriptive label for reformers within religious history and related modernization processes.
