Reflektiivisesti

Reflektiivisesti is a Finnish adverb meaning “in a reflexive or reflective manner.” It is derived from the adjective reflektiivinen, which refers to reflection, self-reflection, or grammatical reflexivity. In Finnish, the term is used in both everyday and academic language to describe actions, analyses, or attitudes that involve considering one’s own role, biases, or influence, as well as the objects of study or events themselves.

In linguistics and grammar, reflektiivisesti can describe how an action is directed back onto the subject, i.e., reflexive usage or constructions. It is common in academic discussions to talk about refleksiiviset muodot (reflexive forms) or to describe procedures or descriptions performed in a reflexive manner. For example, one might say: Hän käsitteli tilanteen reflektiivisesti, viitaten omaan rooliinsa tutkimuksessa.

In social sciences and humanities, reflexivity is a central methodological concept. Reflektiivinen tutkimusote (reflexive research approach) asks researchers to examine their own assumptions, positions, and potential influences on data collection and interpretation. The goal is to increase transparency, self-awareness, and the rigor of analysis by acknowledging how the researcher’s perspective shapes findings.
