ReedSolomonkód

ReedSolomonkód is a type of forward error correction code known for its ability to correct burst errors. Developed by Irving Reed and Gustave Solomon in 1960, it is a non-binary linear block code. This means that instead of operating on individual bits, it operates on symbols, where a symbol can be composed of multiple bits. This characteristic is crucial for its effectiveness in handling errors that occur in contiguous blocks, a common scenario in many communication and storage systems.

The core principle behind ReedSolomonkód lies in polynomial algebra over finite fields, specifically Galois fields. Data is represented as coefficients of a polynomial. The encoding process involves evaluating this polynomial at specific points, generating redundant symbols. These redundant symbols allow the decoder to not only detect errors but also to correct them. The number of errors that can be corrected is directly related to the number of redundant symbols added during encoding. A ReedSolomonkód with 2t redundant symbols can correct up to t symbol errors.

ReedSolomonkód finds widespread application in various technologies. It is used in digital storage media like CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs to ensure data integrity despite physical imperfections or scratches. In telecommunications, it is employed in systems such as DSL, 3G and 4G mobile networks, and satellite communications to combat signal degradation and interference.
