After recycling, recovery, often in the form of energy recovery, becomes relevant. This involves extracting energy from waste materials through processes like incineration with energy generation.

The lowest and least preferred option in the reduceringshierarki is disposal, typically landfilling or incineration without energy recovery. This is considered the least sustainable because it represents a loss of resources and can have significant environmental consequences.
