RecordProtokoll

RecordProtokoll is a standardized protocol for recording, exchanging, and validating records across information systems. It defines a canonical data model, verification procedures, and interoperability rules to ensure the integrity, provenance, and auditability of records as they move between organizations.

At its core is the RecordEnvelope, a container that couples a record payload with metadata. Key fields include record_id, version, created_at, and creator, as well as a provenance section and a cryptographic hash of the payload. Envelopes can be linked into a chain, enabling verification of the full history.

Security and trust are achieved through digital signatures and hash chains. Each envelope is signed by the originating party, and downstream verifications confirm non-repudiation and tamper-resistance. Optional time-stamps and external attestations provide an immutable audit trail.

The transport layer is designed for interoperability, supporting HTTP(S) and standard encodings such as JSON or CBOR. APIs offer operations to create, fetch, verify, and trace records, with optional offline signing and store-and-forward capabilities for disconnected environments.

Privacy and governance features address data protection concerns. Access control, data minimization, and redact options help organizations comply with regulations, while comprehensive auditing supports compliance reviews and dispute resolution.

RecordProtokoll has been adopted in sectors such as finance, healthcare, and legal archives to enable cross-organizational record keeping. It is maintained as an open specification by the RecordStandards Consortium, with reference implementations and language bindings to promote interoperability.
