Recirulerende

Recirulerende is an adjective used to describe a process or system that returns a portion of its output back into the input, creating a closed or semi-closed loop. It is applied across engineering disciplines to increase efficiency, conserve resources, and reduce waste by reusing a medium such as air or water.

In building services, recirulerende ventilation mixes a fraction of indoor air with outdoor air and recirculates the rest for conditioning. This reduces the energy required for heating or cooling, but requires filtration and air-quality monitoring to manage contaminants, carbon dioxide, and humidity.

In water treatment and aquaculture, recirulerende systems reuse water after treatment. Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) use mechanical and biological filtration, aeration, temperature control, and disinfection methods to maintain water quality while minimizing discharge.

In chemical and process engineering, recirculation loops improve mixing, heat recovery, and residence-time distribution in reactors and separations. Pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and sensors control flow and quality, enabling steady operation and higher overall efficiency.

Benefits of recirulerende systems include reduced resource consumption, lower environmental impact, and improved process stability. Challenges comprise energy use for pumping and filtration maintenance, the risk of contamination or biofilm buildup, and higher initial capital costs.
