Reaktsioonikesksus, sometimes translated as reaction centrality or reactivity, is a concept in chemistry that describes the propensity of a chemical substance to undergo a specific chemical reaction. It's not a single, universally defined property but rather a context-dependent assessment of how readily a molecule will participate in a transformation.

Factors influencing reaction centrality include the inherent stability of the molecule, the presence of functional groups, bond strengths, steric hindrance, and electronic effects. For example, a molecule with weak bonds or highly strained structures might be considered more reaction-central than a molecule with strong, stable bonds. Similarly, the presence of electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups can significantly alter a molecule's reactivity towards certain reagents.

The concept is often discussed in relation to reaction mechanisms. A highly reaction-central molecule might readily form intermediates or transition states, indicating a lower activation energy for a particular reaction pathway. Conversely, a molecule with low reaction centrality might require harsh conditions or specific catalysts to initiate a reaction.

Understanding reaction centrality is crucial for predicting reaction outcomes, designing synthetic strategies, and optimizing reaction conditions.
