Ravimikandidaate refers to a substance or compound that is being investigated for its potential to treat a specific disease or condition. This stage of drug development follows initial research and preclinical testing, where the candidate has shown promise in laboratory settings or animal models. The term implies that the compound has not yet been definitively proven effective or safe for widespread human use and requires further rigorous evaluation.

The process of identifying and developing a ravimikandidaate is lengthy and complex. It involves extensive scientific research, including understanding the disease mechanism and identifying potential targets. Once a candidate molecule is identified, it undergoes a series of studies to assess its pharmacology, toxicology, and potential efficacy. This typically involves in vitro studies (in test tubes or cell cultures) and in vivo studies (in living organisms).

If preclinical studies are successful, the ravimikandidaate may then enter clinical trials in humans.
