Raumschiffstruktur refers to the physical design and construction of a spacecraft. It encompasses the overall shape, the materials used, and the internal layout, all of which are dictated by the spacecraft's intended mission and operational environment. Key considerations in spacecraft structure include minimizing mass while maximizing strength, ensuring thermal stability, and providing adequate protection against radiation and micrometeoroids.

The primary structural component is typically the hull, which encases all other systems. This hull can be made from a variety of materials, including aluminum alloys, titanium, and advanced composites, chosen for their strength-to-weight ratios and resistance to extreme temperatures. Internal structures often include bulkheads, frames, and support beams to reinforce the hull and provide mounting points for subsystems like propulsion, life support, power generation, and scientific instruments.

The shape of a spacecraft is a result of aerodynamic considerations if it needs to operate within an atmosphere, or purely functional requirements in vacuum. For instance, probes often have a streamlined shape for atmospheric entry, while orbital satellites might be more modular or cylindrical. The arrangement of components within the structure is crucial for weight distribution, heat management, and accessibility for maintenance. Redundancy in structural elements is also often incorporated to ensure mission success even in the event of partial failure.
