Ratiosoperators

Ratiosoperators is a term used in mathematics and computer science to describe the class of operators that manipulate ratios, either as mathematical objects or as programming constructs. The term is not standardized, but it is used to discuss how ratio values interact under arithmetic, comparison, and transformation operations.

In abstract terms, a ratio operator takes one or more ratio inputs or compatible numeric inputs and yields a ratio or a numeric value. Common operations include addition and subtraction of ratios, multiplication and division of ratios, and comparison to establish order or equality.

When ratios are represented computationally, they are often implemented as fraction objects with a numerator and denominator. Ratio operators are then implemented via operator overloading: for example, (3/4) + (2/5) equals 23/20, and (3/4) / (2/5) equals 15/8.

Key properties include closure under defined operations, associativity and commutativity where applicable, and the need to reduce results to lowest terms by dividing numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor. Implementations must guard against zero denominators and handle mixed numeric types.
