The instrument of ratification is then deposited with a designated depositary. The depositary is typically another state party to the treaty, an international organization like the United Nations, or a specified authority. The depositary's role is to receive and keep custody of the instruments of ratification and to notify other states parties of their submission. The treaty generally enters into force for a state once its instrument of ratification has been deposited and any other conditions for entry into force specified in the treaty have been met.
