Rasvaalkoholeilla
Rasvaalkoholit, also known as fatty alcohols, are a group of organic compounds that are alcohols and possess a long hydrocarbon chain. They are derived from natural fats and oils, or can be synthesized from petrochemical sources. Chemically, they are characterized by a hydroxyl functional group attached to a long alkyl chain, typically with twelve to eighteen carbon atoms. This structure gives them amphipathic properties, meaning they have both a water-loving (hydrophilic) head and a water-repelling (hydrophobic) tail.
The primary applications of fatty alcohols are as intermediates in the production of detergents and surfactants.
Beyond their use in cleaning agents, fatty alcohols find applications in the cosmetics and personal care industry.
