Rasteroituvaksi

Rasteroituvaksi is a Finnish term that translates to "rasterizable" or "convertible to a raster image." It refers to the ability of a digital image or graphic to be represented as a grid of pixels, also known as a raster image. This is in contrast to vector graphics, which are defined by mathematical equations and can be scaled infinitely without losing quality.

When an image is rasterized, it is broken down into a specific number of small squares or dots, each assigned a particular color. The resolution of a raster image is determined by the number of pixels it contains. Higher resolution images have more pixels and therefore appear sharper and more detailed. Conversely, lower resolution images have fewer pixels and may appear pixelated or blurry when enlarged.

Many common image file formats, such as JPEG, PNG, and GIF, are raster formats. Software applications used for image editing, like Adobe Photoshop, primarily work with raster images. The process of rasterization is essential for displaying images on screens, printing them, and for many digital imaging workflows.
