Ransomes

Ransomes is a brand primarily associated with garden machinery and formerly with agricultural equipment. The company originated in Ipswich, England, in 1780, founded by Robert Ransome. Initially, it focused on making ploughs and other agricultural tools. Over time, Ransomes expanded its product line to include a wide range of agricultural machinery.

In the 20th century, Ransomes became particularly well-known for its mowers, developing innovative designs for both professional turf care and domestic use. The brand became synonymous with quality and reliability in the horticultural sector. Ransomes was also involved in the production of construction equipment for a period.

Throughout its history, the Ransomes name has been part of several larger corporate entities. For many years, it was Ransomes Sims & Jefferies. Later, it became part of Textron, an American conglomerate, where it operated under the Ransomes Jacobsen banner. More recently, the Ransomes brand has been integrated into Jacobsen, which is now part of the Textron Specialized Vehicles division, focusing on professional turf equipment. While the original company structure has evolved significantly, the Ransomes brand continues to represent a legacy of engineering in the grounds care industry.
