Rankweil is a municipality in the state of Vorarlberg, Austria. It is located in the Rhine Valley, approximately 12 kilometers northwest of the state capital, Bregenz. The municipality is situated on the banks of the Rhine River and is nestled within the valley of the only navigable river in Austria. The name "Rankweil" is derived from the Rankweil Abbey, a Franciscan monastery that dates back to the 13th century.
