Randevu

Randevu is a Turkish noun meaning a scheduled meeting or appointment, and can also refer to a date with someone. It is used in both professional contexts, such as medical, administrative, or business appointments, and in social or romantic settings. The term is borrowed from the French rendez-vous, which conveys the idea of a planned meeting, and has been part of Turkish since the 19th or early 20th century.

Common phrases include randevu almak (to make an appointment), randevulaşmak (to arrange a meeting or date), and randevuyu iptal etmek (to cancel the appointment). In everyday use, physicians, government offices, banks, and other institutions may require or offer an online randevu sistemi (appointment system). A randevu saati refers to the appointed time, and arriving on time is generally expected, with lateness often discouraged; cancellations are typically preferred with advance notice.

Randevu can also refer to a date between two people in a romantic sense, especially in casual speech. In Turkish, more formal or neutral alternatives for certain contexts include görüşme (meeting) or randevulu görüşme (scheduled interview). The term remains common across urban and rural contexts and is integral to organizing time in both public services and social life.
