Radiantintensiteetti, often translated as radiant intensity, is a radiometric quantity that measures the power radiated from a light source in a particular direction. It is defined as the radiant flux (total power radiated) per unit solid angle. The SI unit for radiant intensity is watts per steradian (W/sr).

This quantity is crucial for understanding how light is distributed from a source. For example, a spotlight has a high radiant intensity in a narrow beam, while a bare light bulb radiates power more uniformly in all directions, resulting in lower radiant intensity in any specific direction. Radiant intensity is not a property of the source itself, but rather a measure of the source's output in a given direction, considering the observer's perspective.

It is distinct from other radiometric quantities like radiant flux, which measures the total power emitted by a source, or radiance, which measures the power emitted per unit area per unit solid angle. Radiant intensity helps engineers and scientists characterize the directional properties of light sources, which is important in applications ranging from the design of lighting systems to the calibration of optical instruments.
