Radiaattorien

Radiaattorien, often referred to as radiators, are devices designed to transfer heat from one medium to another, typically for heating purposes. In residential and commercial buildings, they are commonly used as part of a central heating system. The primary function of a radiator is to emit heat into a surrounding space, raising the ambient temperature. This is usually achieved through convection, where the heated air above the radiator rises and circulates, and radiation, where heat is emitted directly from the radiator's surface.

The most common type of radiator is filled with hot water or steam, heated by a boiler. As the hot fluid circulates through the radiator's channels, it transfers its thermal energy to the metal of the radiator. This metal then heats the surrounding air. Radiators come in various designs and materials, with cast iron being a traditional and durable option, known for its ability to retain heat. More modern radiators are often made of steel or aluminum, which can heat up and cool down more quickly.

The efficiency of a radiator depends on factors such as its size, material, surface area, and the temperature of the heating fluid. Proper placement within a room is also important for effective heat distribution. While historically a dominant heating element, radiators are now often complemented or replaced by other heating technologies such as underfloor heating or heat pumps, depending on the application and energy efficiency goals.
