Racemisoituminen
Racemisoituminen, also known as racemization, is a process in chemistry where a chiral compound is converted into an equal mixture of its enantiomers. Enantiomers are stereoisomers that are non-superimposable mirror images of each other. In a racemic mixture, also called a racemate, the concentration of each enantiomer is equal, resulting in a net optical activity of zero because the opposing rotations of plane-polarized light by each enantiomer cancel each other out.
This process typically occurs when the chiral center of a molecule undergoes a reaction that temporarily or
Racemization can be an undesirable side reaction in synthetic chemistry, as it reduces the enantiomeric purity
