RWBY

RWBY is an American animated web series created by Monty Oum for Rooster Teeth. Set in the world of Remnant, it follows humanity’s struggle against the monsterous Grimm in a land divided into kingdoms such as Vale, Mistral, Atlas, and Vacuo. The world relies on Huntsmen and Huntresses, elite fighters who defend cities, wield weapons enhanced by Dust, a magical energy.

The series centers on four students who form Team RWBY at Beacon Academy: Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long. The name RWBY derives from the initials of their first names. The show blends fantasy action with character-driven storytelling and draws on anime-inspired visuals, while using a 3D animation style with stylized shading.

RWBY was created by Monty Oum and produced by Rooster Teeth. It premiered in 2013 on Rooster Teeth’s website and YouTube. After Oum’s death in 2015, Miles Luna and Kerry Shawcross continued development. The series is released in volumes, with ongoing story arcs and evolving animation.

The franchise has expanded into additional media, including a chibi spin-off, comics, and adaptations such as RWBY: Ice Queendom, a Japanese anime-style series, as well as cross-media projects including a feature-length crossover with DC’s Justice League and a video game, Grimm Eclipse.

RWBY has garnered a large international fanbase and is noted for popularizing anime-influenced aesthetics in Western animation. It continues to release new volumes and related media, exploring themes of friendship, identity, and resilience.
